Housing & Building Research Center

| Founded in 1954, the Housing & Building Research
Center (HBRC) is an independent government research establishment subordinate to the
Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban communities.HBRC performs a leading role in
enhancing the performance of the building sector through scientific research. Besides an
annual government fund, HBRC activities are financed through the construction industry,
local and foreign funding agencies. The center is involved in scientific research, technical development, and action planning that adresses the nation's priorities in the field of housing, building, and environmental design. Strategic studies concerning building activities and urban development have been accomplished and numerous national problems investigated and solved.

| The training center occupies an entire floor
in the new building and includes four lecture rooms equipped with overhead and slide
projectors, VCR, TV, and on-line data show facilities. Eash lecture room can accomodate 40
trainees at a time, and has an adjacent staff room and waiting area. Short-term training
courses are offered in serval domains.

| The auditorium accommodates 200 persons and
is served by four rooms for translation facilities. Adjoining the auditorium is a
reception lobby from which one may access the potio. The center also has several meeting
rooms of different sizes in both the main and the new building. All the above
mentioned rooms are air-conditioned and furnished with the necessary audio-visual
equipment.

| In the new building, a total area of 800
square meters are dedicated to a permanent display of researsh work, building materials,
and design projects at HBRC. The exhibition area is equippedwith sound and light systems,
movable partitions, and adjoining services.

| The center includes a professional library with
updated books, periodicals, local and international publications in the fields of
architecture, housing, urban planning, and the different branches of civil engineering.
The reading hall accommodates 40 readers.

| The aim of the information center is to
support the building sector, its organisations, companies, and manufacturers, by providing
them, through updated data and analysis, with a scientific basis for decision-making. The
information center is intended to link the HBRC with other local and international
information networks. Besides its database function, the computer facilities of the
information center are used for advanced analysis by HBRC staff, and to process HBRC
publications. |
